Because of their diversity, microorganisms are present everywhere in nature, including the human body. Some of these microorganisms coexist peacefully there, but others might be harmful.
Ample consideration should be given to the food, medications, and other things we use in or on the outside of our bodies because some reactions inside the body might turn those living peacefully into pathogenic organisms.
The Most Prevalent Genera of Microorganism found in the Human Body are;
1. Staphylococcus
Staphylococcus epidermis and Staphylococcus aureus are the species that are most frequently observed. This bacteria coexists in healthy people’s bodies at a rate of 20% without doing any harm. However, skin infections, pneumonia, and food poisoning can result from staphylococcus infection from another individual. The skin, eyes, nose, throat, mouth, and intestines are where it is most commonly found.
2. Klebsiella
Klebsiella pneumonia and Klebsiella oxytoca are the species that are frequently detected in the body. They are present in the human intestines, skin, nose, mouth, and vagina. They don’t affect healthy people, but they can spread illnesses in sick people. Pneumonia, meningitis, and other illnesses are among them.
3. Enterococcus
Enterococcus faecalis is the most prevalent species. It coexists peacefully in the human colon, throat, and vagina, but it can also result in surgical wounds and urinary tract infections.
4. Escherichia
Escherichia coli is the most prevalent species; while certain strains of this bacterium are harmful, the majority cause diarrhea, pneumonia, and urinary tract infections. Their primary habitat is the intestines.
5. Haemophilus
Haemophilus influenzae is the most prevalent species. The respiratory tract and heart valve are the main targets of this bacteria. After its discovery, it was wrongly thought to be the microorganisms causing flu outbreaks.
6. Streptococcus
The species are Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus mitis, and Streptococcus salivanus. They are divided into Groups A and B based on the severity of the ailments they induce. While group B are more severe and are frequently seen in older and ill adults, group A lives quietly in the skin and throat and produces moderate disease as skin infections. Meningitis is primarily brought on by it. Streptococcus can be detected in the vagina, esophagus, eyes, skin, and more.
7. Pseudomonas
The most prevalent species is Pseudomonas aeuginosa, and it may be found in the mouth, intestines, and urethra of humans. It primarily affects patients with compromised immune systems and causes blood infections and pneumonia.
8. Spirochaeta
Syphilis and Lyme disease are brought on by this bacteria. The beneficial qualities are still unknown, but it dwells in human guts.
9. Mycoplasma
It can be detected in the mouth, urethra, and throat. It results in lung infections and infections of the urinary tract.
10. Mycobacterium
The prominent human diseases including tuberculosis, leprosy, and Hansen’s disease are caused by this bacteria. People with compromised immune systems are affected. It resides in the urethra, intestines, skin, nose, and throat.
11. Neisseria
Neisseria is a genus that includes the species Neisseria gonorrhoea, Neisseria mucosa, Neisseria subflava, and Neisseria meningitis. Neisseria meningitis and Neisseria gonorrhoea, which live in mucous membrane and spread through sexual contact, are the only two members of this species that cause diseases in humans. It can be discovered in the urethra, vagina, mouth, throat, and eye.
12. Bacteroides
Bacteroides have six different species: Bacteroides caccae, Bacteroides distasons, Bacteroides ovatus, Bacteroides uniformis, and Bacteroides vulgatus. These bacteria can be both helpful and hazardous to humans. They aid in the digestion of food and the creation of nutrients and energy for the body to use when they are in the gut, but when they are in the intestines, they lead to dangerous blood infections that result in abscesses all over the body.
13. Clostridium
There are three different species: C. difficile, C. tetani, and C. perfringens. Tetanus, botulism, and intestinal discomfort are just a few of the toxins that might result from this. Inflammation of the intestines can result in a disease that can be fatal. It is located in the mouth and intestines.
